More About Me

Hi, I am Ben Lake! I am a senior at the University of Alabama studying Aerospace Engineering. I plan to attend graduate school and seek Master’s degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Management.

Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time outdoors, playing sports, snowboarding, surfing, playing guitar, and learning new things!

On this page, you’ll learn everything from my professional goals to the journey along the way!

Professional Objectives

  • Zipline drone delivering medical supplies

    Making a Difference

The purpose behind the passion — I want to use my skills to contribute to meaningful work that makes a difference in the world

  • Darkstar Experimental Aircraft, Top Gun Maverick

    Pushing the Limits

Challenging the norm, thinking outside the box — I want to use my skills to break through the boundaries of traditional technology

I thrive where these two worlds collide. Currently, I am looking for entry-level and internship opportunities where I can push the limits and make a difference!

How did we get here?

-James Spann, ABC 33/40 Meteorologist

“All you can do is pray…”

On April 27th, 2011, a violent EF-4 tornado tore through my hometown, Tuscaloosa, AL. The damage was immeasurable. On the following days, my family and I went into town to help with disaster relief. I remember feeling powerless — there was nothing I could do to undo what had been done.

From that day on, I knew that I wanted my future occupation to involve helping others.

Title Town

Growing up in Tuscaloosa, home to the University of Alabama and a rich sports history, gave me a competitive spirit and a desire to break barriers. I played nearly every sport, and I wanted to be the best.

Fast forward to now, “Title Town” has left its mark on me. Striving for excellence is one of my most important values — both professionally and in my personal life.

-The Blue Angels

“Glad to be here.”

For a long time, Tuscaloosa was home to an annual air show, hosting groups such as the Blue Angels. These air shows led to my desire to become an aerospace engineer!

Glad to be here is a common Blue Angels greeting, as pilots express their gratitude for their membership and role on the team. Likewise, I am thankful for the opportunity to pursue something I love!

-Nick Saban

“This is not the end. This is the beginning”

As Nick Saban won his first national championship at the University of Alabama, he made a commitment to Bama fans — he’d be there for the long run. Saban would retire at Alabama with six national championships.

Commitments are everything to me. Like Saban’s career at Alabama, I am looking for a role to commit to and leave behind a lasting legacy.
